  2. The US Food and Drug Administration has approved the use of the anti-flu drug Tamiflu for prevention in children aged one to 12. It is already approved for treatment of young children who are suffering from influenza.

Melamine is a chemical that has been implicated in the deaths of thousands of household pets when the animal food supply was contaminated.Melamine has been recently contaminated the milk supply in China. 3. The F.D.A. is everywhere these days, or so it seems. In the 1990s, the agency was widely criticized as taking too long to approve new drugs, so Congress passed legislation speeding up drug reviews. Critics have said that the FDA have been approving medicines too easily and for months delayed issuing warnings about potential drug risks. In the past year, the agency has seized thousands of Asian herbal supplements promoting virility because they contained the active ingredient in Viagra, a regulated substance.

in 2007 president bush signed the FDA Amendment Act which was To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to revise and extend the user-fee programs for prescription drugs and for medical devices, to enhance the postmarket authorities of the Food and Drug Administration with respect to the safety of drugs, and for other purposes.

  7. 30 years ago FDA’s emphasis was on institution of basic procedures and record keeping. It soon evolved to cg Mp.Currently FDA attempting to drive innovation and investment in manufacturing sector through compliance/enforcement actions. The Obama administration plans to give full regulatory control over cigarettes and plans to raise taxes on tobacco to fund children s health insurance.

  8. Obama addressed many of the nation's problems that have occurred in recent years. "In 2006, it was contaminated spinach. In 2008, it was salmonella in peppers and possibly tomatoes. And just this year, bad peanut products led to hundreds of illnesses and cost nine people their lives – a painful reminder of how tragic the consequences can be when food producers act irresponsibly and government is unable to do its job. Worse, these incidents reflect a troubling trend that’s seen the average number of outbreaks from contaminated produce and other foods grow to nearly 350 a year – up from 100 a year in the early 1990s."
Obama announced a new appointees and tougher food safety measures for the FDA. The Department of Agriculture will close a loophole to prevent diseased cows from entering the food supply. The government will invest in the FDA to greatly increase the number of food inspectors and to modernize food safety labs.
Many of the FDA's laws and regulations are still very outdated. It’s also because the system of inspection and enforcement is spread out so widely among so many people that it’s difficult for different parts of our government to share information, work together, and solve problems. And it’s also because the FDA has been underfunded and understaffed in recent years

  9. There are a lot of FDA regulations, such as the Prescription Drug Marketing Act, the Lead-Based Paint Poisoning Prevention Act, and the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act. There are some new Acts that occurred over the years. I'm not sure what new changes are to occur in the future, I didn't hear Obama mention anything about the Food and Drug Administration.

The fast food restaurant I chose is Subway. I think subway is actually a good restaurant you can choose to buy healthy food and have them make your food healthy. In order to maintain a good dietary diet you have to eat the right amount of fruits and veggies, and the right amount of meats, grains, and dairy's; you can do that at Subway. For example you can order wheat brain instead of white bread; you can also chose to eat tomatoes on your sandwich.

  11. The FDA has completed a proof-of-concept. It is a study of a test that quickly and accurately detects the presence of even the smallest amount of the deadly anthrax toxin. A proof-of-concept study is a start of investigation to determine if a new scientific idea or concept holds promise for further development.

President Obama plans to update food safety and said that the FDA is underfunded and understaffed. Obama has picked the new FDA chief who is Dr. Margret Hamburg. Obama also talks about creating a Food Safety Work Group, with the goal of organizing and overhauling food safety laws. Obama said he is going to ask the Congress for $1 billion in new funds to add inspectors and to modernize laboratories, also said the Agriculture Department is moving ahead with a rule change banning all sick or disabled cattle from entering the food supply. These animals pose a higher risk of having mad cow disease, E. coli, and other infections.
